Monthly Road Trip: Los Angeles, California

Living in Fresno and the Central Valley can mean having fun and wonderful nights at the minor league Fresno Grizzlies baseball game. However, it is always fun to catch a major league game in Los Angeles or San Francisco that is just a few hours away!

Going To A Dodger Game And Activities To Do While There

To think that living in Fresno means that so many activities and places are within our reach! Whenever baseball season kicks off, we know that it is time to head south to catch a Dodgers Game. Last season, we got the chance to see one of the most exciting games of the season! On the way to this game, we had picked up some family, who are fellow Dodger fans, in Porterville. The main reason we went was for “Grandpa Land” as he is the biggest Dodgers fan of all. The Los Angeles Dodgers, who were one game away from winning the 2017 World Series, went into extra innings when the rookie player, Kyle Farmer, hit a walk-off hit to win the game in the 11th inning. You can see the amazing game-winning hit here.

Get your tickets!

We have always gotten our tickets easily through Vivid Seats and have never encountered a problem. We find it great to sit in the Loge Section right between home and third base. One perk about this specific section is the cover it provides from the sun during afternoon games!

If You Over-Night it: Go to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library

Among our various trips to the Dodger games, we have found fun and amusing places to visit and things to do while there. One such thing is to leave early and visit the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. This was on our list for at least five years ever since our eldest son told us how incredible it was when he had visited it on his way to the Los Angeles area. Some must-do activities at the library include: touring the Oval Office, boarding the Air Force One, experiencing the Berlin Wall exhibit with the library’s own piece of the wall, seeing the outdoor replica of the White House South Lawn, and viewing the interactive displays and hundreds of artifacts. The great part about it was both the adults and the teenagers in the group had a great time!

After a long day at the Library, we then went to an old-school restaurant in Simi Valley called Sutter’s Mill Restaurant. This restaurant has a nice ambiance and reasonably priced steak and seafood. It has recently been referred to as a “hidden gem” and we couldn’t agree more. It was very easy for us to get a table for ten and was a wonderful birthday celebration for me!

Another restaurant that is a little more pricey and upscale than Sutter’s is Barton’s Steak & Seafood. It has a longer wait time but is rated 4.5 on Yelp.

If You Day-Trip it: Stop at Hodel’s

Sometimes instead of staying overnight, we choose to spend just a day to go to a game. While it is a shorter trip, there are still a lot of fun activities to do. On your way, make sure to stop at Hodel’s Country Dining right off of Highway 99 in Bakersfield.  We ate here on a trip to a Sunday afternoon Dodger game so we got the chance to try the diner ourselves.

Some must-have treats are the delicious cinnamon rolls and cookies along with many other great buffet choices! It has amazing reviews such as one stating that it is “Kern County’s Best Buffet” and the ever-telling comment that it “tastes just like the food came from Grandma’s Kitchen.” What can be better than Grandma’s cooking?

A Trip Anyone Can Enjoy!

No matter if you don’t have time to spend more than a day or have a group of teens and adults, there are activities for all to enjoy! While we have the amazing Fresno Grizzlies here locally, it is always fun to experience a major league game being as we live so close to not only one, but two teams: San Francisco Giants and the Dodgers!

Whether you are living in Fresno, Clovis, or Sanger, taking a trip to a major league game is full of fun and excitement!
