Shaver Lake

Monthly Road Trip: Shaver Lake

Looking for a weekend getaway close to home? Year-round fun and only an hour drive? Get to Shaver Lake!

We recently took the whole family up for a quick weekend getaway to Shaver Lake! We took the camper and stayed at Camp Edison, which is so pretty and close to the lake! Here is a list of some of the things we enjoyed and we think you will too!

Boating

Shaver Lake has some of the most picturesque scenery you could ever imagine! There are two full-service marinas which have ample parking and friendly staff. This high sierra lake has it all: from water sports to fishing, and everything in between!

Need to Rent a Boat? Houseboat or pontoon rentals are a must when visiting Shaver Lake with family and friends! We found a spot to have lunch, swim, and play on the the sandy river bank. Whether using it as a party barge or just to take in the scenery of the beautiful lake, it will surely impress anyone! Make sure you check out Shaver Lake Marina.

Lodging

You have a couple options if your not lucky enough to own a cabin in Shaver.  The first is to go through Airbnb.  In the past we have rented a very spacious and authentic, but updated, cabin that was very reasonable when split with three families; and which included three separate sleeping areas, each with their own bathroom. We go this route in the winter and have enjoyed hours of sledding in snow, and then spent time in the evenings playing games, or relaxing in the hot tub while taking in the beautiful mountain scenery.

Camping

The second option, especially in the spring and summer, is to go camping at Camp Edison.  Over 250 sites with electricity and cable TV, nestled among the trees, and right on the shoreline.  Directly from you campsite you have access to beautiful nature hikes that are perfect for beginners or the avid hiker. Great for young kids also! Families (dogs too) are sure to have a memorable time when “beaching” it just hanging out on the sandy shore which is only a 5 minute walk. Great for playing in the sand and having a picnic lunch. If you don’t have a camper no problem, we have used both Outdoorsy and RVShare to rent an RV or camper in the past with good results.  If your not wanting to tow a camper some people on there will deliver it and set it up for you!
